Halloween Haunt | Making Monsters - Easy Monster Makeup Tricks

Caressa ( http://www.caosfx.com/ ) and I were the makeup artists for Club Blood this past Halloween Haunt season and our monsters were fantastic. I thought it would be fun to record a quick time lapse of the applications we do to bring our monsters to life

10 - 15 min to complete...

We are given roughly 10-15 min to complete each persons' makeup, so the airbrush application becomes essential for speed - even with the airbrushes being prone to clogging, spitting and air pressure changes on a daily basis.

Because we share the same maze, both mine and Caressa's contour tricks stay the same for each character, and then we play around with teeth, veins, blood and eye shapes for different vamps.

The first year I worked at Haunt I definitely made the mistake of taking time to paint lots of subtle detailing and shading that looked great in the bright lights. However, after walking the maze at night we realize how much that all gets muddied together and nothing stands out.

Strong contrast is the name of the game for maze monsters, which is why we really only use three colours: White, Black and our "contouring" colour that is a mix of reds, browns, and purple.

UV Paints for Skeleton Key Monsters

The exceptions were our monsters in the Skeleton Key room, which was black light lit, so we incorporated UV paint colours to stand out in the dark.

Thank you so much to all our monsters this season and hopefully we will see you again next year!
